Cox Marine now has a boat of its own. Miranda, a 12-metre Tideman RBC1200 powered by twin Cox Marine 300hp V8 diesel outboards, will work as the Shoreham-by-Sea manufacturer’s dedicated engineering, validation and demonstration vessel.
The boat made its first public appearance at the International Workboat Show in Hoorn, Netherlands, on September 29 and 30, 2026. Cox Marine announced the vessel formally on October 6.
The Boat
The RBC1200 comes from Tideman Boats, the Amsterdam-based builder whose workboats use hulls of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). Cox Marine points to the material’s durability, impact and corrosion resistance and low maintenance requirements. Miranda pairs an enclosed wheelhouse with a large open working deck, a layout the company says suits patrol, defence, law enforcement, offshore support, harbour operations and search and rescue work.
The vessel is built to MCA Workboat Code Edition 3 requirements, with certification achieved in partnership with MECAL, and carries a fully compliant Small Vessel Electronic Chart System (SV-ECS). Electronic steering, joystick control and the autopilot are supplied by Dometic. Cox Marine has not named the other partners behind the navigation, communications and onboard systems.
More Than an Engine Test Bed
Cox Marine describes Miranda as a fully integrated vessel platform, bringing propulsion, steering, vessel control, navigation, communications and onboard systems together in one hull. The company says the project reflects its aim to offer greater expertise across the complete propulsion installation, not only the outboard on the transom. The boat will be used for product development and validation, sea trials, training, and demonstrations for customers and partners.
George Bramley, CEO of Cox Marine, said:
Miranda represents an important investment in our engineering and development capability, giving us a dedicated commercial platform to test, validate and demonstrate our technology in real-world operating environments. By bringing together propulsion, steering, control and navigation technologies, Miranda demonstrates how these systems can work together as an integrated package.
It was great to introduce Miranda to the industry at the International Workboat Show, and we look forward to putting the vessel to work supporting future development and giving customers and partners the opportunity to experience our solutions on the water.
The Engines
The V8 on Miranda’s transom is the engine Powerboat News profiled in June: a 4.4-litre, twin-turbocharged, 60-degree diesel designed from a blank sheet for marine use and in production since 2020. Our full Cox Marine V8 diesel outboard profile covers its history, specifications and independent test results.
Twin 300hp Cox units also power Leidos Australia’s Sea Archer unmanned surface vehicle, which began sea trials in Northern Territory waters in June. Read the Sea Archer story.
