Peter Little has taken his 2000 Monohull to 100.18mph on Coniston Water, the organisers of the 54th Coniston Power Boat Record Week announced on Friday 6 November, the final day of the event.
Little told Powerboat News it was another box ticked, and that he had never been over 100mph on the lake before. The organisers said the run came after repeated attempts through the week.
The class is 2000 Monohull, 1501 to 2050cc. Little’s 97.36mph had already appeared among the records announced by the organisers up to the end of Wednesday 4 November, so the new figure is 2.82mph faster than his own mark from earlier in the week. As with every figure from the week, it is subject to ratification.
The Birmingham competitor has won world and European championships in Class 3 and has come out of retirement. His Class 3B titles are the 1991 world championship and the 1990 and 1997 European championships. In Class 3C he won the world championship in 1999 and the world and European championships in 2000, and he added a European title in 2004.
He made record attempts at Windermere before the event moved to Coniston, and the event’s published results show runs by him going back to 2006. He entered this year with Team 26, an Allison hull running a 200hp Mercury XR2.
Little also told Powerboat News he is interested in racing the Raid Pavia-Venezia next year.
Record attempts began at 08:00 on Friday and the final attempt start deadline is 14:00. Prize giving is at the Coniston Institute at 21:00.
Which records stand in each class, and who holds them, is set out in British and World Water Speed Records.
