Pelle Larsson, Chairman of the UIM Formulae Committee, has been elected to the board of Svemo, Sweden’s national motorsport federation, following the organisation’s annual meeting in Stockholm on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
Svemo governs a broad range of motorsport disciplines in Sweden, including offshore powerboat racing, circuit boat racing, aquabike and hovercraft racing. The federation was founded in 1935 and is affiliated with Riksidrottsförbundet, the Swedish Sports Confederation.
New Chairman and Board
Jesper Christensen was elected as the new Svemo chairman, succeeding Jonas Gustafson. The position carries a two-year term. Alongside Larsson, Susanna Hanson Öberg joined the board as a new member, while Lars Pärnebjörk was re-elected. Lotta Kronåker Boström, Ulla Peterson and Ola Hansson continue as the remaining board members.
The meeting rejected a proposal from the outgoing board that would have capped the chairman’s term at twelve years. Delegates voted against the restriction, leaving no maximum tenure in place.
Audit Reform and Governance Changes
One of the more substantive decisions was a change to how Svemo audits its finances. The federation will now engage a registered audit firm, with Baker Tilly Norrköping AB appointed to the role. Two lay auditors, Therése Hammarberg (new) and Jon Lindberg (re-elected), will serve alongside the firm. The previous arrangement relied on three elected auditors, one of whom was required to be a qualified accountant. The change takes effect immediately.
Delegates also resolved that responsibility for statute templates governing the regional Special Sports District Federations (SDF) passes to the Svemo board, subject to approval by a majority of the relevant SDF boards before any changes are made.
Activity Plan 2026–2028
The meeting approved Svemo’s three-year activity plan, which prioritises the simplification and digitalisation of regulations and administrative systems, youth sport development, safety, environmental sustainability, and strengthened support for clubs, regional federations and international events held in Sweden.
Several motions on licensing costs were referred back to the board for further development, with a mandate to report on reducing the cost of entry-level licences and official training courses by 2027. A separate motion on whether regional federations should be permitted to levy general membership fees on clubs was also sent back for further study and consultation with the SDF network.
Royal Medals
The meeting recognised two individuals with royal medals for their long service to Swedish motorsport. Åke Knutsson and Annika Wrenkler each received the honour at the Stockholm event.
