West Marine’s confirmed store closures have grown to 91. The retailer added 32 locations to its closure list in early August, on top of the 59 stores Powerboat News itemised from court filings in June. The expanded list, published in the company’s own store closure directory, spans 28 states.

Powerboat News has been following the Chapter 11 case since the restructuring talks were first reported, through the bankruptcy filing, a cancelled asset auction, a discovery dispute over unsecured creditors’ recoveries, and the Delaware court’s confirmation of the reorganisation plan on August 11.

Florida takes the heaviest hit by some distance, with 18 stores now confirmed for closure, more than double its original eight. California, Michigan and Washington each lose seven stores. Maryland, New York and South Carolina each lose five or six. The remaining states each account for four closures or fewer.

West Marine has not detailed a further breakdown of the additional 32 stores beyond the closure directory itself. The company says the decision to close the locations was difficult, and that its remaining stores and online business continue operating as normal, with gift cards, rewards benefits and warranties honoured at other locations.

A List That Could Still Grow

West Marine’s store closure directory is a live company page, not a fixed court exhibit. The retailer added the 32 stores to the same directory it used for the original 59, without a fresh court filing driving the update, which leaves open the possibility of further additions before the case concludes.

The reorganisation plan the Delaware court confirmed on August 11 addresses the company’s capital structure, not the store count directly. Whether the retail footprint stabilises at 91 stores closed, out of the roughly 240 West Marine operated before the petition date, is not yet settled.
