Dirty Money Racing, the Class 1 and Super Cat offshore team based in Stuart, Florida, has announced the formation of DMR Performance, a new precision manufacturing company targeting both offshore racing teams and the broader high-performance marine sector.
The venture brings together two precision manufacturers, AXEM and JL Billet, each with backgrounds in the firearms industry, who will contribute advanced machining capability, technology and personnel. Okuma America Corporation, a CNC machine tool manufacturer with motorsport partnerships that include Richard Childress Racing and Don Schumacher Racing, has joined as an Official Technical Partner, with its equipment forming the core of the new facility in Stuart, Florida.
Race-proven manufacturing
Bill Pyburn, DMR Performance partner and throttleman, outlined the thinking behind the venture:
“This partnership reflects our core DNA of relentless innovation powered by data and the best technology available. We are bringing partners together that share these values and possess an innate passion for performance and winning.” Bill Pyburn, DMR Performance
Pyburn was clear that the ambition extends beyond the race programme:
“We are making this investment to bring advanced solutions to market for offshore racing, and the broader marine sector. Other teams and OEMs will be able to come to us and benefit from our race-proven research and development.” Bill Pyburn, DMR Performance
Stuart base
AXEM principal Mike Dowell will lead the manufacturing company at its Stuart facility. He said:
“We’re trying to take this team and this sport to the next level. Fundamentally, we want to change how this sport is looked at from a manufacturing perspective. I want everyone to get better — we’re all stronger together.” Mike Dowell, AXEM
DMR Performance will develop and manufacture precision components for use in offshore powerboat racing and the high-performance marine industry. It is backed by the World and National Championship-winning Dirty Money Racing team.
