Mathilda Wiberg was awarded with the Smedjebacken kommun’s prestationsmedalj (achievement medal) during Monday evening’s kommunfullmäktige (municipal council) meeting, recognising her historic UIM F2 World Championship victory in September.
Kommunfullmäktige (municipal council) chair Carin Runeson presented the achievement medal to the 22-year-old Swedish driver, who became the first woman in history to win a Formula-class world championship.
The ceremony included a standing ovation from the assembled council members and Mathilda told them:
I want to thank the club for all the support and the municipality for this recognition.
Wiberg clinched the 2025 title at Vila Velha de Ródão, Portugal on September 21st.
The Swedish driver lives in Stockholm but has roots in Smedjebacken and races for Smedjebackens båtklubb.
Her brother Hilmer Wiberg finished second in the championship, with Lithuania’s Edgaras Riabko third.
