Mathilda Wiberg’s boat is being repaired in time for the season finale at Vila Velha de Ródão, after the front sponson was damaged in the collision with Peter Morin during the Peso da Régua Grand Prix.
Her partner and radio operator, Alberto Comparato, has been working from Portugal to relay details of the damage to his father, Fabio, in Chioggia, Italy. Fabio has moulded a new front sponson section in quick time, with the race having taken place on Sunday and the part ready by Tuesday morning. It will be flown to Lisbon as luggage with one of Mathilda’s team members.
The defending UIM F2 World Champion spoke to PBN over breakfast on Tuesday morning.
“I really want to thank Fabio for working so hard,” she said. “I’m not sure my boat will look very pretty, but once my team put a lot of work in to repair everything this week, I will be racing this weekend.”
