Cappellini talks about Andersson signing as testing begins

Jonas Andersson has begun on-water testing with the F1H20 Team Abu Dhabi following his move from Team Sweden.

Team Principal Guido Cappellini confirmed the three-time world champion has started testing, three years after he first pursued the Swedish driver.

The 10-time F1H2O world champion said he had been working towards the signing since 2023 and testing had confirmed Andersson’s value both as a driver and in providing technical feedback to develop the boat.

Cappellini described Andersson as

one big upgrade for the team

He continued, combining Andersson’s engine experience with his DAC hull technology could create an advantage for 2026.

Andersson won world titles in 2021, 2023 and 2024 with Team Sweden, claiming 16 Grand Prix victories across 118 career starts.

Team Abu Dhabi has not confirmed its full driver lineup for 2026 beyond Andersson’s signing.

The team has not won a drivers’ championship since Shaun Torrente’s 2022 title. Team Abu Dhabi finished fifth in the 2025 teams’ standings.

The 2026 UIM F1H2O World Championship calendar has yet to be confirmed, with rounds expected in China, Jeddah and Sharjah.
