Norwegian F1H2O racer Marit Strømøy has released her latest single “Last to Know”, blending her dual passions for powerboat racing and music as she prepares for a demanding November schedule across two continents.
The track, written and produced by Hallgeir Rustan at Stargate Studios in Trondheim, marks Strømøy’s return to recording after focusing primarily on her F1H2O World Championship campaign this season. The single is now available on Spotify.
Strømøy revealed plans to record additional material this week before embarking on back-to-back racing commitments that will test both her physical endurance and logistical capabilities.
Let’s make November a month to remember.
Racing Across Two Championships
The 49-year-old will compete in races three and four of the 2025 UIM XCAT World Championship in Kuwait from 20-22 November, racing for Energima Racing. Following the Kuwait event, Strømøy will travel directly to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where she will switch to her own Strømøy Racing team for the fourth round of the F1H2O World Championship on 27-29 November.
Historic F1H2O Career
Strømøy has competed in 103 F1H2O Grand Prix since making her debut in 2007, establishing herself as one of the sport’s most accomplished female drivers. In 2011, she became the first woman to earn pole position in F1H2O at Portimão, Portugal. Four years later in Sharjah, she achieved an even more significant milestone by becoming the first woman to win an F1H2O Grand Prix.
Her finest championship performance came in 2019 when she finished third overall. Currently racing Mercury’s four-stroke V8 360 APX engine, Strømøy finished seventh in the 2024 F1H2O World Championship, with her best result of the season being fourth place at the Regione Sardegna Grand Prix of Italy.
She made her racing debut at age 12 in 1989, following in the footsteps of her father who ran a boat workshop in Sandefjord. Before progressing to F1H2O, Strømøy won the European Championship three times in S-550 class and competed successfully in F-2000.
Parallel Careers in Music and Racing
Strømøy’s musical career has run parallel to her racing achievements for more than two decades. She began piano lessons at age seven and developed her vocal skills whilst playing. By age 20, she had secured her first professional singing contract, leading to a seven-year tenure with Wallmans Salonger in Norway, where she performed more than 1,000 shows.
She has competed twice in Melodi Grand Prix, Norway’s Eurovision Song Contest qualifying competition. In 2005, she participated as a member of the group Blissed, and returned in 2006 as a solo artist performing “Too Much Love”. She has also appeared on Norwegian television programmes including “4-stjerners middag” and “Beat for Beat”.
Throughout her career, Strømøy has maintained both pursuits, touring with her band and performing across Norway and internationally whilst continuing to compete at the highest level of powerboat racing. When asked which career means more to her, she has stated that both fulfil different needs, with racing providing the adrenaline and competition she craves, whilst music offers artistic expression.
Production Credentials
Hallgeir Rustan, who produced “Last to Know”, was a founding member of the Norwegian production trio Stargate alongside Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Storleer Eriksen. Whilst Hermansen and Eriksen relocated to the United States and achieved global success producing for artists including Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Ne-Yo, Rustan remained in Norway operating Stargate Studios in Trondheim.
Rustan has worked with numerous Norwegian and international artists throughout his career, maintaining the studio whilst his former colleagues established Stargate as one of the world’s most successful production teams.

John Moore’s involvement in powerboat racing began in 1981 when he competed in his first offshore powerboat race. After a career as a Financial Futures broker in the City of London, specialising in UK interest rate markets, he became actively involved in event organisation and powerboat racing journalism.
He served as Event Director for the Cowes–Torquay–Cowes races between 2010 and 2013. In 2016, he launched Powerboat Racing World, a digital platform providing global powerboat racing news and insights. The following year, he co-founded UKOPRA, helping to rejuvenate offshore racing in the United Kingdom. He sold Powerboat Racing World in late 2021 and remained actively involved with UKOPRA until 2025.
In 2025, he established Powerboat News, returning to independent journalism with a focus on neutral and comprehensive coverage of the sport.
