Wednesday’s opening races at the 44th Annual Offshore World Championship delivered compelling competition across 11 racing categories, with Monster Energy/M CON, Dirty Money Racing and Spirit of Qatar claiming victories in the premier classes at Key West.
The Truman Waterfront Cup featured half-points scoring as the opening salvo in a three-race championship format, setting the stage for Friday’s Southernmost Continental Championship and Sunday’s full-points finale.
Pro Class 1: Monster Energy Claims Narrow Victory
Aaron Coil and Taylor Miller aboard Monster Energy/M CON secured a hard-fought Pro Class 1 victory, completing eight laps in 22min 37.3sec to finish 17.8 seconds ahead of Darren Nicholson and Giovanni Carpitella in 222 Offshore Australia.
The race featured intense competition throughout, with the top three boats separated by less than 50 seconds. XINSURANCE, crewed by an unspecified pairing, claimed third position in 23min 25.8sec.
Team DeFalco, with Mike Falco and Billy Moore, finished fourth after a competitive run that saw them complete the distance in 23min 33.7sec. Five of the eight starters completed the full race distance, with XINSURANCE South retiring after five laps and WHM withdrawing after completing only three circuits.
Super Cat: Dirty Money Dominates Seven-Boat Field
Dirty Money Racing produced a commanding performance in the Super Cat class, winning by nearly a minute over Rollin Transport. The victors posted a time of 21min 03.1sec across eight laps, with their closest challenger finishing in 22min 02.9sec.
Team Farnsworth Motorsports/Hancock Claims, featuring Christian McCauley and Anthony Smith, secured third position in 22min 20.2sec. The class saw two retirements, with CR Racing/South East Services completing just one lap and C.J. Grant Racing/Graydel failing to finish the opening circuit.
Extreme Class: Spirit of Qatar Extends Championship Lead
His Excellency Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani and Steve Curtis MBE dominated the two-boat Extreme class, defeating American Custom Marine by 2min 39.4sec. The Spirit of Qatar 96 crew posted consistent lap times throughout their 21min 22.6sec victory, establishing a 10-point championship advantage with their 101-point haul including bonus points.
Super Stock: Torrente and Jamnickzy Edge Raymarine
Shaun Torrente and Matt Jamnickzy claimed Super Stock honours aboard Team Nautical Ventures, edging Raymarine by just 4.6 seconds in the closest finish of the day. The winners completed five laps in 15min 19.3sec, with Gary Ballough and Cole Leibel’s Raymarine finishing in 15min 23.9sec.
Wozencraft claimed third position, 17 seconds behind the leaders, whilst 12 of the 14 starters completed the full race distance. Say Less MF retired after completing four laps, whilst Drink-Kelo did not start.
Factory Stock: Say Less MF Rebounds with Victory
After their Super Stock retirement, Say Less MF bounced back to claim Factory Stock class honours in 17min 23.3sec over six laps. GC Racing MTI finished second, 15.4 seconds behind, with AL&AL securing the final podium position.
The race featured several notable performances in challenging conditions, with eight of nine entries completing the full distance. MF Racing did not start the contest.
Super V and Modified V Results
Team Farnsworth Motorsports/Hancock Claims secured their second class victory of the day in Super V, posting a seven-lap time of 20min 39.2sec. Knucklehead Racing finished 37.9 seconds behind in second, with Cortez Cove Fountain claiming third.
In Modified V competition, Boatfloater.com narrowly defeated Speed Marine by 3.2 seconds, with both boats completing six laps in times under 20min 15sec. The class featured 11 entries, with nine completing the full race distance.
Bracket Class Summary
Across seven bracket classes ranging from Class 2 through Class 7, plus the single-entry Cat 300 category, competition proved equally fierce:
Bracket Class 2 saw OC Racing defeat Justice League by 44 seconds in a three-boat contest. Team Woody Racing claimed Bracket Class 3 honours ahead of Wehaulboats.com, whilst Saris Racing Engines dominated Bracket Class 4 with a victory margin exceeding one minute.
Rum Runners secured Bracket Class 5 victory by 11.9 seconds over Marker 1 Marine SRQ/BronxPhantom in an eight-boat field. MDG Offshore Racing edged Team Ride Legal by less than three seconds to claim Bracket Class 6, whilst Dirt Legal Velocity Factory Race Team won Bracket Class 7 ahead of RedRum.
Several competitors received breakout penalties for exceeding their designated speed brackets, including entries in Bracket Classes 4, 6 and 7.
Championship Picture
With Wednesday’s half-points races complete, championship leads have been established across all categories heading into Friday’s second round of competition. The unique scoring format awards bonus points for the number of competitors in each class, adding strategic complexity to the three-race championship format.
Racing continues on Friday, November 7th with the Southernmost Continental Championship, before Sunday’s full-points finale determines the 2025 world champions across all categories.

John Moore’s involvement in powerboat racing began in 1981 when he competed in his first offshore powerboat race. After a career as a Financial Futures broker in the City of London, specialising in UK interest rate markets, he became actively involved in event organisation and powerboat racing journalism.
He served as Event Director for the Cowes–Torquay–Cowes races between 2010 and 2013. In 2016, he launched Powerboat Racing World, a digital platform providing global powerboat racing news and insights. The following year, he co-founded UKOPRA, helping to rejuvenate offshore racing in the United Kingdom. He sold Powerboat Racing World in late 2021 and remained actively involved with UKOPRA until 2025.
In 2025, he established Powerboat News, returning to independent journalism with a focus on neutral and comprehensive coverage of the sport.
